DD with Cat330 LR Excavator
Self propelled 30m x 9m pontoon ‘Doreen Dorward’ has recently completed pipeline extension works for Visser & Smit Hanab at Ashlett Creek, Nr Southampton. Dredging was completed prior to the installation of the new pipeline using WM Plant Hire’s 45t, 22m long reach excavator on deck. Damen multicat ‘Buffalo’ has also been on charter for another Southern Water project in the Southampton area, with a specialist team of divers equipped with jet blasting equipment to clear a blocked surface water outfall.

Winter Dredging programme 2006/2007

JML60 & Hop
‘Bring on the back hoe boys!’

With the arrival of winter and the seasonal migration of pleasure craft from the water in to the boat yard, Jenkins Marine fires up it’s dredging crew to come to the aid of the south’s marinas.

Dredging operations are currently underway Poole harbour, Dorset, conveniently also the home of Jenkins Marine’s operational base. For smaller marinas and areas of restricted access, such as in Poole, Jenkins Marine utilise their compact back hoe dredger ‘JML 60’. An 18m x 6m shallow draft pontoon with hydraulically operated 12m spud legs, JML 60 combines accessibility with good output capability. The output is currently generated by skilled operatives controlling a 24 ton JCB excavator. JML 60’s twenty five individual ballast tanks can be selectively filled to counteract the weight of the excavation equipment to provide a stable, level working platform.

To dispose of the spoil, Jenkins operates three hopper barges; Nab, Needles & Hop. Hop is a bottom door barge with a 268m3capacity and a versatile length of 36m. Nab & Needles are slightly larger sister ships, split hopper barges with a 300m3 capacity. Propelled using powerful V12 Caterpillar engines with shottel nozzles, all three barges offer a prompt delivery service to expectant dredging pontoons. Nab & Needles also offer the ability to carry rock armour and stone, and recently completed works in Belfast which commissioned the fabrication of protective hardwood oak mats. The mats line the interior of their hopper wells preventing plate damage from the high point loads of the rock cargo.

Jenkins Marine have also recently completed more challenging dredging works with their 36m dredge pontoon Doreen Dorwood. The ‘Doreen’ was loaded with a long reach excavator provided by WM Plant Hire, enabling a dredging depth of over 20m. Works involved the negotiation of challenging tidal conditions and the exposed coastal location of Foreness point near Margate to excavate a reception pit for a specialist tunnelling machine.

With a wide variety of vessels and a wealth of experience, Jenkins Marine continues to offer dredging solutions whatever the size or scope of works. Friendly, efficient staff are always on hand to take your enquiries.

FLEET EXPANDS WITH PURCHASE OF NEW VESSELS
November 2006

The Tug Glenesk
Jenkins Marine continues to expand it’s diverse fleet of vessels following the acquisition of another two deck cargo barges and coastal tug.

Jenkins Marine already operates two 600t, 37m LOA deck cargo barges. The two recently acquired barges are of the exact same design (37m Length, 10m Beam, 0.7m Light Draft with swim ends). The large deck area and loading capacity makes them extremely useful, and they have previously been used for a number of varied operations including; rock transport, crane platform (up to 80t crawler crane), bulk deck cargo transport (e.g. boat moulds, etc.), piling platform with crane, etc.

In addition to Jenkins Marine’s existing tug ’Kingston Lacy’, our new purchase ‘Glenesk’ has a greater bollard pull and increased manueverability. ‘Glenesk’ is a Damen pushycat (15m Length, 5m Width, 2.25m Draft) with twin screw Cat 343 engines in fixed nozzles providing 730hp and a bollard pull of 9t. With a fuel capacity of 10t and certification under the MCA workboat code of practice she is ideal as a towage/ support vessel. Towing operations are assisted by a towing winch with a SWL of 6.25t.

Work is already scheduled for ‘Glenesk’ in the new year and we look forward to putting her and the additional barges to good use into the future!
